Authorities find 19 bombs after Hyderabad blasts kill 42
A day after two synchronized explosions ripped through popular gathering spots in Hyderabad, India killing at least 42, authorities discovered at least 19 more undetonated bombs scattered around the city. Police defused the bombs - all fitted with timers - at bus stops, movie theaters, road intersections and pedestrian bridges—all locations designed to cause maximum carnage. The police said each of the bombs contained ball bearings and ammonium. The explosions occurred just minutes apart. The first hit an open-air auditorium in a public park during a laser show about the history of Hyderabad, killing at least 11 people. The second blast ripped through a popular restaurant in the heart of Hyderabad's commercial district. The police and witnesses say the restaurant was packed with patrons. At least 30 were killed. India's home minister, Shivraj Patil, expressed his frustration in the government's inability to protect its citizens from violent terror attacks. "We have to take timely action on the basis of information received. But our country is so big that even if we have the information that something is planned we do not know where or when," he said. Investigators are searching for the group responsible for the attacks and have questioned over 20 people. Many already believe Islamic militants are to blame.
